Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has become the most‑capped African player in FIFA World Cup history.

The defender reached a landmark 12th tournament appearance for Morocco.

Entering the 2026 World Cup, the Paris Saint‑Germain star had 10 appearances. He moved to 11 after playing in Morocco’s 1–1 draw with Brazil, and his appearance against Scotland takes him to 12.

The 27‑year‑old now tops the African all‑time leaderboard outright.

Hakimi leads the ranking ahead of Francois Omam‑Biyik of Cameroon and Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, who previously shared the record with 11 World Cup appearances.

He has appeared in three World Cups for Morocco and played every match for his country.
