Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho may soon learn what his future holds at Celtic, according to Afrik‑Foot. The 29‑year‑old’s contract expires at the end of the month, and if the club chooses not to renew it, he will become a free agent.

Iheanacho signed a one‑year deal with the Hoops last summer after leaving Sevilla. Celtic had the option to extend for another season, but injuries hampered much of his campaign. Despite these setbacks, he contributed important goals in the final stages of the season, helping Celtic secure a domestic double by winning the league title and defeating Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final.

With the end of the season approaching, Celtic are reportedly looking to strengthen their attack for next year. The Scottish Sun reports that the club is considering a move for Colombian forward Camilo Duran, who has impressed during a successful campaign with Qarabag in the Azerbaijan league.

Duran scored 15 goals for Qarabag, including five in the Champions League against clubs such as Ajax, Eintracht Frankfurt, Benfica and Newcastle United. Celtic have also shown interest in Elias Filet, indicating a clear intention to bring in a new centre‑forward this summer.

Qarabag are reportedly willing to sell Duran for around £2 million, a fee that should be affordable for Celtic. Personal terms are also expected to be manageable, potentially easing the completion of a deal.

Implications for Iheanacho

Iheanacho has expressed a desire to stay at Celtic beyond the current season, hoping to build on his performances and become a more consistent first‑team option. However, concerns about his fitness and availability over a full campaign remain.

During the campaign, Iheanacho made 24 appearances, whereas Duran featured 43 times for Qarabag and produced stronger statistics. His five Champions League goals would also be attractive to Celtic, who are preparing to return to the competition next season and would benefit from an additional proven attacking option at European level.

If Celtic secure Duran, competition for the centre‑forward role would increase, potentially forcing the club to release one of its current options. With Iheanacho’s contract set to expire in the coming days, he could be the most likely player to depart.

Celtic face a crucial decision regarding Iheanacho, and the club’s interest in Duran may signal uncertainty about the Nigerian forward’s future at Celtic Park.
