At least four vehicles and other property worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that swept through a mechanic workshop in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The blaze struck a workshop in the Akingbade area on Old Ife Road. According to reports, the incident began on Saturday evening.
Firefighters also reported that a container on the premises was consumed by the flames.
No casualties were reported, DAILY POST confirmed.
Oyo State Fire Service Chairman Hon. Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident on Sunday. In a statement released to DAILY POST, Akinwande said the operation was carried out jointly with personnel from the Federal Fire Service.
He stated, “Upon arrival, it was discovered that a container and four vehicles at the mechanic workshop were engulfed by fire, with thick smoke billowing from the vehicles and container involved in the incident.”
“The fire was swiftly contained by Oyo State Fire Service personnel, preventing further spread to nearby properties. The cause of the fire was sparks from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials. No casualty was recorded. The firefighting operation was jointly carried out with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.”
DAILY POST also reported that a shop and a residential building in Ogbomoso were damaged by fire on Saturday.
The incident occurred at No. 5 Ile Atagbonrin, Stadium Area, Ogbomoso. It was reported that properties worth millions of naira were affected.
Akinwande confirmed the Ogbomoso incident as well, saying, “Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a prefabricated shop adjoining a six‑room residential building was engulfed by fire.”
