Germany secured a spot in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2‑1 comeback victory over Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group E match on Saturday.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side opened the tournament with a decisive win against Curaçao, but the Elephants forced them to work harder by taking an early lead in the first half.
Although Germany dominated possession and generated more chances, Côte d’Ivoire struck first, with Franck Kessie giving the African team the advantage before the break.
Germany responded strongly after halftime, with substitute Deniz Undav proving decisive. The striker entered the field to score twice, turning the game around and giving the four‑time world champions a second consecutive win.
The result guarantees Germany a place in the knockout stage, making them the latest team to advance to the Round of 32.
They join co‑hosts Mexico and the United States, who had already secured their spots in the next phase of the tournament.
