PGF hails Oyebanji’s landslide win as endorsement of APC governance

By Dayo Johnson & Rotimi Ojomoyela, Ado Ekiti

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) welcomed Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s victory in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, describing the result as a clear endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governance agenda.

Oyebanji was declared the winner of Saturday’s poll after receiving 319,224 votes, defeating PDP candidate Dr. Wole Oluyede, who secured 40,543 votes, and ADC’s Ambassador Dare Bejide, who obtained 12,872 votes.

A PGF delegation, led by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, and joined by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, visited Oyebanji at the Government House in Ado Ekiti to offer congratulations.

Uzodimma said the outcome reflected the electorate’s confidence in APC’s programmes and governance, adding that the party’s influence continues to expand nationwide.

He also praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, noting that the result demonstrated steady progress in Nigeria’s democratic process.

“The overwhelming support enjoyed by the APC in the election reflected the confidence of the people in the party’s programmes,” he said.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the result as a triumph for democracy, commending INEC and security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election.

He noted that the scale of Oyebanji’s victory showed the governor’s popularity and the trust voters placed in his administration.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who chaired the APC campaign council in Ekiti, said Oyebanji’s re‑election marked a historic milestone, as he became the first governor in the state’s democratic history to secure back‑to‑back victories since 1999.

Bamidele added that the governor’s leadership had fostered unity among political stakeholders and transformed the state’s political environment, demonstrating his ability to build consensus and deliver governance across party lines.
