President Bola Tinubu celebrated the 85th birthday of the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi).
In a statement released on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the traditional ruler as a leading figure in the South‑East, a corporate leader, an oil‑and‑gas expert, and a seasoned boardroom adviser. He described the Obi as a symbol of unity, grace, and integrity.
Igwe Achebe previously served as a director at Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria and held positions in other Shell entities across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, Liberia, and Angola before ascending the throne of his ancestors.
The President highlighted the Obi’s efforts in peace‑building, youth empowerment, and socio‑economic development within his domain and beyond.
Particularly, Tinubu commended Igwe Achebe for deepening national cohesion and acting as a vital link between grassroots communities and the government.
He also acknowledged the traditional ruler’s decades of service to the nation through corporate leadership, enterprise, and governance.
President Tinubu joined the royal family, the people of Onitsha, and residents of Anambra State in wishing Igwe Achebe continued good health and strength as he continues to lead his community, state, and nation.
