The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that two individuals who were recently kidnapped in Igbope remain in captivity.

Earlier on Sunday, reports circulated that the victims had been freed by their abductors—identified as Fulani herdsmen—after an ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

In a statement released the same day, Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade refuted those claims, describing the alleged release as false and misleading.

According to Daily Post, the two people abducted a few days ago in the area are Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son.

Rumours online suggested that Igboho’s intervention had secured their release. Ayanlade dismissed the rumours, urging the public to verify information before accepting it.

He reiterated that the police are actively working to secure the victims’ freedom.

“The Oyo State Police Command has taken notice of a video and related online content alleging that the victims abducted at Igbope on 16th June, 2026—Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son—have been rescued,” the statement read. “The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the claim contained in the circulated video is false, unfounded, and misleading.”
