Ekiti youths set police station on fire amid anger over community member's death

Irate youths set fire to the Isan‑Ekiti police station in protest over the death of a community member who is alleged to have been killed by police officers.

The incident took place on Friday night, just hours before the state’s Saturday gubernatorial election.

Details about the incident remain unclear, but a viral video captured the angry youths storming the police station and setting it on fire.

The footage also shows a lifeless young man lying in a pool of his own blood.

When contacted by DAILY POST, SP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Command, said he would follow up.

When asked what sparked the violence shown in the viral video, the PPRO replied, “you have to hold on, I will get back to you.”

The incident has raised security concerns ahead of the gubernatorial polls that are set to begin in a few hours.
