Ogun Police Clarify Viral Forest Video Is Not Associated with the State

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has clarified that a viral video circulating on social media and being associated with Ogun State did not originate from the state.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command said its preliminary findings indicated that the footage was not recorded in Ogun State or anywhere else in Nigeria.

The statement added that available information and independent verification efforts suggest the video was filmed outside Nigeria and had previously appeared online before being re‑circulated with a different narrative.

The police noted that the footage, which shows a group of people in a bush environment, was originally uploaded several years ago and has recently resurfaced on social media.

Commenting on the matter, Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, urged the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified content online.

“The video currently circulating on social media has not been linked to Ogun State based on findings available to the Command,” he said.

Ojajuni warned that misinformation could create unnecessary anxiety and encouraged residents to seek information from official and credible sources.

He also stated that the command had no information at the time of the statement indicating that the activities portrayed in the video were taking place in Ogun State.

The Commissioner reassured residents that the police would continue to carry out security operations and maintain vigilance across the state.

He further encouraged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities and to rely on official communication channels for security updates.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
