Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has advised manager Michael Carrick to target West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes as a replacement for Casemiro.
Casemiro departed the club after the 2025/26 season.
Owen praised Fernandes, saying he is a very good player who would fit well at the Red Devils.
Manchester United has been linked with Fernandes, who moved from Southampton to West Ham last summer.
“Casemiro’s shoes are big shoes to fill, aren’t they?” Owen said to Metro. “And you know lots of people were writing them off, but he had an incredible last two‑thirds of the season and big shoes to fill.”
“Personally, if I were Michael Carrick, if I were Manchester United, I’d be getting Fernandes from West Ham. I think he’s very good. I think he’s exactly what they need.”
