Brentford have announced that former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff will join the club as assistant manager, according to talkSPORT.

Duff, who had been out of football after leaving his role as Shelbourne manager last year, will work alongside Brentford boss Keith Andrews, who is also Irish.

The duo will aim to build on the Bees’ ninth‑place finish last season, a result that left the club just short of European qualification on the final day.

Andrews and Duff have a history together from their time in the Republic of Ireland coaching set‑up, with Duff having recently spent time at the West London club alongside Andrews.

“I’ve known Damien for a long time,” Andrews said on the club’s official website. “I’ve seen him up close throughout his coaching journey. We’ve been on courses together and worked together as coaches with the Republic of Ireland national team.”

“Damien will bring experience, presence and a real level of detail to our coaching department. He will add to the great group we already have and I’m very pleased that he is joining us.”

Duff guided Shelbourne to the League of Ireland title in 2024 but was unable to replicate that success the following season, which led to his unexpected departure.

The title was Shelbourne’s first in 18 years, coming just three years after the club’s promotion to the top flight.

He described the championship win as the “pinnacle of his career” amid a host of standout highlights.

After beginning his senior career at Blackburn, Duff signed for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in 2003 for £17 million.

During his time at Stamford Bridge he won two Premier League titles and the League Cup.
