A 55‑year‑old farmer in Borno State, Ali Mustapha, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for hiding information about Boko Haram activities in his Katara village.
The farmer, who had been in custody since 2013, was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako accepted the plea and imposed a 15‑year sentence, with no option for a fine.
The judge noted that the convict claimed there were no government officials or security agencies to report to, as he lives in an obscure and remote village in Borno State.
Justice Nyako ordered that the 15‑year term begin from 2013, when the convict was arrested and taken into detention.
