The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured council victories in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Adamawa State where results have been announced.

Only the Numan LGA remains undecided. Its election, postponed from Saturday, June 13, is scheduled for today.

Although Adamawa’s state government is currently led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the council results may surprise observers who are unaware that the electoral timetable was set before Governor Ahmadu Fintiri switched from the PDP to the APC on February 27 this year.

Many of the governor’s loyalists followed him into the APC, but the council chairmen who had previously been endorsed for re‑election under the PDP stayed with their party.

Other parties contested the Saturday elections but failed to make a significant impact.

Chief Maurice Vunobolki, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections and a key figure in the pre‑council campaign, congratulated the newly elected council chairmen. He said the PDP’s success demonstrates the party’s continued popularity among voters.

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) conducted the elections and is now focusing on the Numan LGA poll.

Among the new chairmen is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, elected for Yola North LGA.
