In a visit to Wasagu District in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, a high‑level delegation headed by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida met with residents on Saturday to express condolences over a recent deadly bandit attack.
The delegation was sent by Governor Nasir Idris after armed men, believed to be bandits, attacked the community of Unguwan Dutse in Wasagu Town. The attackers entered at night through a forest corridor that is thought to extend into neighbouring Zamfara State, killing two people, injuring several others and abducting six residents.
Senator Tafida delivered the governor’s sympathies to the families affected and the wider community, pledging renewed government action to improve security in the area.
He announced the immediate deployment of a Mobile Police Barracks to the district and plans to set up a Forward Operating Base to enable quicker response and better surveillance of vulnerable communities.
He urged residents to stay calm and continue cooperating with security agencies while the government takes further steps to protect lives and property.
Senator Tafida also prayed for the repose of those who died, wished the injured a swift recovery, and announced support for affected families to help them cope with the incident.
Commissioner for Internal Security Hon. Haliru Magaji of Wasagu confirmed that two persons were killed and several others were injured, describing the attack as “unfortunate and deeply concerning.”
He said Governor Nasir Idris remains fully committed to restoring peace in the area and has directed security agencies to intensify operations aimed at preventing further attacks.
Chief of Wasagu Alhaji Mukhtar Musa Muhammad expressed concern about the growing insecurity in the district, especially along border communities linking to Zamfara State, and called for a stronger security presence.
Other members of the delegation, including commissioners and senior officials from key ministries, also voiced solidarity with the affected communities.
