Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu ruled out of Portugal friendly

Super Eagles centre‑back Igoh Ogbu will miss Nigeria’s friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury during training on Saturday evening.

Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed that Ogbu suffered a suspected rupture of his left Achilles tendon during the squad’s preparation session for the match.

“Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu has been ruled out of the friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury in training this evening,” the medical team said. “Team medics describe the situation as a suspected rupture of his left achilles tendon.”

The injury is a significant setback for both the player and the national side. Further medical assessment will determine the full extent of the damage and the expected recovery period.

Ogbu had been included in the squad’s preparations and was expected to play in the friendly before the injury occurred.

With Ogbu sidelined, the Super Eagles will need to adjust their defensive lineup as they continue to prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
