Nigerian Army troops intercepted a bandit plot to abduct farmers in Mariga Local Government Area, Niger State.
The incident was reported in a post shared on Tuesday on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who routinely covers security matters nationwide.
Makama said the event took place at approximately 12:35 p.m. on June 22 on the Kukata‑Kotonkoro road, where patrolling soldiers confronted suspected terrorists.
Security sources indicated that the attackers had entered the area to seize farmers working in the fields, but fled upon spotting the advancing troops.
“The terrorists ran away immediately when they sighted the troops, abandoning their plan,” a source said.
Troops from the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) Administration Battalion were conducting a routine fighting patrol at the time of the incident.
Makama added that after the encounter, the soldiers remained in the area and continued patrols to deter additional attacks.
