Troops from the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted a suspected terrorist attack in Zamfara State, seizing weapons, motorcycles and additional equipment.

According to security sources speaking to Zagazola Makama, the troops acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the suspects as they were moving toward Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Sources said the troops positioned themselves strategically along the suspected route and set an ambush for the assailants.

“Upon sighting the terrorists, the troops engaged them with a heavy volume of fire, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding area,” a security source disclosed.

Recovered items included a PKT assault rifle, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains that may have been intended for abducted victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.

The recovery of military uniforms prompted security sources to suspect that the attackers might have intended to disguise themselves during the operation.

“The successful operation disrupted the terrorists’ plans to attack the area and further demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence‑led military operations,” another source said.

Sources added that troops have continued exploitation operations in the area to pursue the fleeing suspects and prevent further threats to residents.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining offensive operations against terrorist and other criminal elements throughout the North‑West region.
