Troops neutralise terrorist, rescue three kidnapped victims in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army reports that troops from Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped individuals, and destroyed a bandit camp during ongoing operations in Zamfara.

This information was released in an operational report provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

The report states that the operation took place on 12 June across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of efforts to curb banditry and other criminal activities.

According to the report, soldiers on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa encountered terrorists operating in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.

The troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, killing one while the others fled.

The report lists the items seized at the scene, including rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, woodland camouflage trousers, and an inner vest.

Following the engagement, the soldiers maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced toward the Sabon Garin Daudawa community.

The report notes that the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing troops.

Subsequently, the soldiers cleared the area and destroyed the camp to prevent it from serving as a safe haven for future operations.

The report also states that three kidnapped victims were rescued during the clearance operations and evacuated to safety.

The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara and the wider North‑West until terrorist and bandit groups are dismantled and peace is restored to affected communities. (NAN)
