LAGOS – The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria has condemned the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, calling the incidents acts of terrorism and demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all victims.
The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Barrister Azeez Alatoye, described the kidnappings as cruel and criminal, asserting that they have no place in religion or humanity.
He said the abductions represent a grave assault on human dignity and must be condemned by all people of conscience.
Alatoye noted that such acts contradict the teachings of Islam, reminding that the Holy Prophet Muhammad was sent as a mercy to humanity, as stated in the Holy Qur’an.
He added that Islam promotes peace, justice and compassion, and that violence against innocent people runs counter to its core values.
“It is the same aggression that is against Islam nowadays by terrorists and their sponsors. Terrorism is an attack on Islam, and all Muslim organisations worldwide should condemn it and call for peace,” he said.
The cleric reiterated the Jama’at’s guiding principle of “Love for all, hatred for none,” and cited Qur’anic teachings that place a high value on the sanctity of human life.
He urged authorities to ensure the safe and prompt release of those abducted and called for stronger measures to protect citizens from criminal elements.
“We demand the immediate release of those who have been unlawfully taken, without delay,” he said.
Alatoye further urged the government to strengthen the nation’s security architecture by adequately supporting security agencies, including the military, police, navy, air force, civil defence and other relevant institutions.
He called on the Office of the National Security Adviser and other stakeholders to prioritise the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
The Ahmadiyya leader also appealed to Islamic scholars and religious leaders across Nigeria and beyond to continue speaking out against terrorism, banditry and other forms of violence.
According to him, religious leaders have a responsibility to clearly distinguish the teachings of Islam from the actions of violent groups.
“Islam means peace and submission to the will of Allah. It promotes justice, righteousness and the avoidance of evil. Violence against innocent people cannot be justified in the name of religion,” he said.
He urged those involved in violent activities to abandon their actions and embrace peaceful coexistence.
Alatoye concluded by praying for peace, security and stability in Nigeria, expressing hope that those responsible for acts of violence would renounce their actions and contribute positively to society.
