Ondo State Police Command has detained six individuals suspected of cult activity during a raid in the Akungba and Iwaro Akoko communities, seizing weapons and items allegedly linked to confraternity groups.

The arrests were carried out by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) in the early hours of June 16, 2026, after intelligence indicated that suspected cult groups were operating in the affected areas.

Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh named the suspects as Damilare Kayode, Adejoro Godwin, Adedapo Ogunro, Chisom Okechukwu, Ademulegun Imisi, and Odugunle Bukola.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were involved in unlawful confraternity activities within the Akoko axis of the state.

During the operation, a search yielded several items believed to be associated with cult activities.

The recovered items included five battle axes, a jackknife, alleged criminal charms, and confraternity paraphernalia such as boots, yellow singlets, and face caps.

These items have been taken into custody as evidence and will be used in the ongoing investigation.

The command noted that the investigation is still underway and that the suspects will be brought before a court once the inquiry is complete.

Police described the operation as a major breakthrough, emphasizing the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and prevent threats to public safety.

Intelligence gathered from the raid is currently being analyzed to identify additional suspected members and to determine the full scope of the group’s activities both within and outside the affected communities.

Felix Ohagwu, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, praised the operatives for their professionalism and dedication.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to the directives of Olatunji Rilwan Disu on combating cultism, violent crime, and other criminal activities nationwide.

Ohagwu assured residents that the command will continue to strengthen intelligence‑driven policing, conduct strategic raids, and maintain visible patrols to deny criminal elements a safe haven in the state.

He urged residents to keep supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to help maintain law and order across Ondo State.
