Police arrest five suspected armed robbers and recover firearms and charms in Oyo.

The Oyo State Police Command has detained five individuals suspected of armed robbery and seized firearms, ammunition, and charms during a raid.

DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, briefed the media in Ibadan on Saturday, describing the operation as a result of sustained efforts to eliminate criminal activity and protect lives and property in the state.

“On June 12, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., our operatives, acting on credible intelligence and as part of ongoing intelligence‑led operations against violent crime, stormed the residence of Surajudeen Babatunde‑Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju,” located in Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan,” Ayanlade said.

During the raid, five suspects were arrested. The individuals are:

• Ahmed Nafiu, male, 43 years
• Olukunmi Olaniyi, male, 36 years
• Femi Odeyinde, male, 53 years
• Jelili Akinade, male, 50 years
• Muhideen Adio, male, 27 years

A comprehensive search of the premises yielded the following items:

• One pump‑action gun
• One single‑barrel cut‑to‑size gun
• Eight live cartridges
• One native bullet‑proof vest
• Two bottles of suspected charm‑induced syrup
• Various charms and other incriminating evidence

The suspects remain in police custody while investigators continue to determine the full scope of their criminal involvement and identify other members of the syndicate who may still be at large.

Command spokesperson Alayande reiterated CP Abimbola Olugbenga’s commitment to combating armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes throughout the state. He assured residents that intelligence‑led operations and targeted raids on identified hideouts would persist until all criminal elements are brought to justice.

The spokesman also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, promising that all submissions will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
