Newly promoted Serie A club Venezia have taken a major step towards signing Super Eagles striker Akor Adams from Sevilla, Afrik-Foot reports.

Reports indicate that Venezia and the Nigerian forward have already reached a full personal agreement. The Italian side are now working to finalise a deal with Sevilla, with negotiations expected to continue in the coming days.

Venezia recently secured promotion back to Italy’s top division and are eager to strengthen their squad before the start of the 2026/27 Serie A season. Adams has emerged as one of their top transfer targets because of his physical style, goalscoring ability and growing reputation in European football.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive first full season in Spain. He finished as Sevilla’s leading scorer during the 2025/26 campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 33 appearances. His performances played a major role in helping the club avoid relegation.

Adams also boosted his reputation with strong displays for Nigeria, contributing important goals during the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and impressing during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Standing at 1.90 metres, Adams offers strength, aerial dominance and a powerful presence in attack, qualities that Venezia believe can help them compete in Serie A.

Akor Adams insists he is staying at Sevilla

Despite the growing transfer speculation, Adams has publicly dismissed reports suggesting he is preparing to leave Sevilla.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, the striker made it clear that he is concentrating on the upcoming season rather than transfer rumours.

“It is normal that during this period there will be rumours of transfer moves for a lot of players, and not just myself. I am happy that my work is being recognised, but there is nothing to it,” Adams said.

“I have not spoken to my agent, and I do not take such things seriously because right now it is time to relax and recharge for next season.”

The former Montpellier striker also stressed that Sevilla’s disappointing campaign has motivated him to focus on helping the club improve next season.

“We did not meet our goals last season, so the focus right now is to see how we can challenge for European places next season. That is the goal, and I am not aware of, neither am I thinking about, all those transfer rumours.”

Adams remains a fan favourite at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, but his future may ultimately depend on the club’s financial situation rather than his personal wishes.

Why Sevilla could still sell Adams this summer

Even though Adams wants to stay, several factors are pushing Sevilla towards a sale.

La Liga financial restrictions

The biggest issue facing Sevilla is their worsening financial condition. Reports claim the club’s wage and personnel expenses account for around 99 per cent of their total revenue, far above the recommended 60-70 per cent range.

This has left Sevilla at the bottom of La Liga’s Squad Cost Limit rankings, meaning they must reduce spending before they can register new players for next season.

Opportunity to make huge profit

Sevilla signed Adams from Montpellier for just €5.5 million. After his excellent performances in Spain and with Nigeria, his market value has increased significantly.

The Spanish club are reportedly seeking between €20 million and €30 million from interested clubs such as Venezia, AC Milan and Olympique Marseille. A sale at that price would generate almost four to five times their original investment.

Club officials reportedly believe part of the money could be used to sign a cheaper replacement while the rest would provide much-needed financial relief.

Failed €440 million takeover deal

Sevilla’s financial problems worsened after a proposed €440 million takeover involving a consortium linked to former club captain Sergio Ramos collapsed during final negotiations.

The failed deal denied the club a major injection of cash, increasing pressure on the board to raise funds through player sales.

Almost every player is available

Adams is not being targeted for sale because of poor performances. In fact, his strong season is one of the reasons Sevilla believe they can command a significant transfer fee.

Reports suggest that the club’s financial situation is so severe that almost every first-team player is considered available if the right offer arrives.

Because Adams is one of Sevilla’s most valuable assets and currently attracting strong interest from clubs across Italy and France, he has become one of the leading candidates to leave.

If Venezia can agree a transfer fee with Sevilla, the Super Eagles striker could soon be playing in Serie A despite his public insistence that he remains focused on succeeding in Spain.
