Federal court filings obtained by ESPN show that former multi‑weight world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather’s scheduled exhibition against Greek kickboxing star Mike Zambidis in Athens on Saturday has been cancelled.
The pay‑per‑view event was slated to take place at the Telekon Center within the OAKA Olympic Complex in Athens.
Events company CSI, which is suing Mayweather over planned bouts against Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao, had requested an injunction in the Southern District Court of New York to block the Zambidis exhibition.
In a letter to the court, ESPN reported that attorney Melissa Glass stated the Mayweather‑Zambidis event would no longer proceed because uncertainty about its status “effectively stopped any promotion or distribution plans for the event and halted ticket sales.”
She added that the bout against 45‑year‑old Zambidis, an 18‑time world champion known for his K‑1 MAX career, could be rescheduled.
CSI filed a lawsuit last week seeking to recover at least $4.65 million, the amount the company claims it paid Mayweather for exclusive rights to promote the planned bouts against Tyson and Pacquiao.
Mayweather, 49, retired from boxing in 2017 with a perfect 50‑0 record.
He has taken part in exhibition bouts since his retirement, but a planned exhibition late last year against former heavyweight world champion Tyson did not materialize, and plans for a rematch with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, announced by Netflix for September, remain uncertain.
The bout, scheduled for the Sphere in Las Vegas, would have pitted the fighters against each other in one of boxing’s highest‑earning matchups.
However, the arrangement fell apart after Mayweather described the fight as an exhibition, whereas Pacquiao stated he had signed for an official bout against the American.
The Sphere has since scheduled a concert by the Eagles for September 19, the date originally set for the Pacquiao‑versus‑Mayweather fight.
