Former Chelsea midfielder and current television pundit Craig Burley has voiced his criticism of Brazil following their 1‑1 draw with Morocco in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup.

The five‑time world champions failed to show their usual quality in the tournament’s first round.

Morocco opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Mohamed Ouahbi’s side displayed strong intensity. PSV Eindhoven’s Ismael Saibari then chipped Alisson Becker, giving the African champions an early advantage.

Brazil equalised in the 32nd minute through Vinicius Junior, who showcased exceptional individual skill. However, Morocco largely outperformed Brazil throughout the match.

Burley slammed Brazil for their lackluster start, stating that the Seleção do not pose a threat to their opponents.

The former Chelsea midfielder said, as reported by ESPN FC on X, “[Brazil] don’t scare anybody… They have moments, but they don’t frighten you.”

Brazil are drawn in Group C with Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti and are expected to advance to the knockout stages with relative ease.

A win over Morocco would have considerably improved their chances of topping the group.
