The US Open’s mixed‑doubles competition will feature a 16‑team, high‑profile exhibition format. Early rounds will use a shortened best‑of‑three format (playing to four games), while the finals will return to a standard six‑game set.

While fans eagerly anticipate the star‑filled pairings, some seasoned doubles specialists have voiced criticism, arguing that the format favors singles players and sidelines dedicated doubles professionals.

“Venus & Serena Williams will play doubles at Wimbledon with a wild card (their request has already been accepted). Fun fact. At the U.S. Open, things are heading toward a star‑studded mixed doubles.”

“Negotiations are underway to field, in New York, Venus paired with Sinner and Serena paired with Carlos Alcaraz. The US Open will be Venus’s final appearance in New York before her official retirement,” Sky Sports’ Mangiante wrote via his X handle.

Such a pairing would be a hugely tantalising prospect for tennis fans worldwide if it comes to fruition. The US Open will run from 31 August to 13 September, with the mixed‑doubles event scheduled for the week before, from Tuesday 19 to Wednesday 20.
