The Plateau Advocates for Peaceful Co‑existence has criticized former Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, for a statement it said misrepresented the safety of highways leading to Jos. The group’s spokesperson, Mr. Bulus Ayuba, said Dalung’s remarks created a false narrative that could deter visitors, investors and residents from engaging in lawful social and economic activities in the state.
Ayuba acknowledged that some rural communities in Plateau have experienced attacks over the years, but argued that these incidents should not be used to paint the entire state with a negative image or undermine its reputation as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.” He highlighted that the people of Plateau have shown resilience, hospitality and unity despite security challenges in certain areas.
The spokesperson urged the public to ignore what he called Dalung’s misleading assertion and to continue lawful commercial, social and economic activities that support livelihoods and promote national cohesion. He maintained that major routes from Abuja, Bauchi and Gombe to Jos remain accessible and safe for travellers, and that business activities are proceeding unhindered across the state. He also noted that highways linking Plateau North, Plateau Central and Plateau South are safe for movement.
Ayuba added that Jos has served as a safe haven for thousands of internally displaced persons fleeing insecurity from the North‑East and other parts of the country, underscoring the relative peace, stability and hospitality that Plateau State continues to offer residents and visitors.
“Plateau remains the Home of Peace and Tourism. The fact that some rural communities have endured attacks does not erase the identity, resilience and welcoming spirit of the people,” the statement added.
