The Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, has announced that students are to resume academic activities on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The announcement of the resumption is coming following the conclusion of a three-week mid-semester break.
This was contained in an internal memorandum issued by I. B. Aronkola, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Senate Division, and addressed to all Deans of Faculties after a special Senate meeting held on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
According to the memorandum, “Senate reviewed the circumstances surrounding the earlier suspension of academic activities, noting that the break was introduced to allow the university administration address concerns linked to a newly introduced transportation system.
“Senate recalled that the three-week moratorium was introduced to give administration ample time to look into the situation generated by the newly introduced transportation system.”
The Senate also indicated that issues arising from the development had been resolved following engagements with relevant stakeholders.
“It also noted the information that all matters that emanated from the situation had been sufficiently addressed,” it added.
Following deliberations, the Senate resolved that students should return immediately after the break ends.
“Senate agreed that students should resume on Tuesday, 19th May, 2026, and all academic activities would commence immediately,” the memorandum added.
