The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr Azeez Sani.

Sani noted that 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects.

He added that the candidates came from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

According to Sani, the examination began on April 20 and concluded on April 30, 2026.

He said the results were published after the successful completion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which was held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and represented by Dr Folake Olatunji‑David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education.

Sani added that the committee was also attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO management.

He reported that the committee approved July 22 and July 23, 2026, as the dates for the BECE resit examination in mathematics and English studies.

The resit is intended for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in mathematics, English studies, or both.

He explained that the resit will give affected candidates an opportunity to address these deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School I without having to repeat an entire academic year. (NAN)
