MINNA — The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The results received approval after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which was held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
In a statement released by Acting Director of Information and Public Relations Azeez Sani, NECO revealed that 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, covering 12 subjects.
These candidates came from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
NECO noted that the examination began on 20 April 2026 and concluded on 30 April 2026.
Sani added that Dr. Folake Olatunji‑David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and Chairperson of the Award Committee, represented Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa at the meeting and expressed satisfaction with the procedures that led to the release of the results.
He also mentioned that the meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO management.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee has scheduled the 2026 BECE Re‑sit Examination for 22 and 23 July 2026, focusing on Mathematics and English Studies.
NECO explained that the re‑sit is intended for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both.
The council said the re‑sit will give affected candidates a chance to address their deficiencies and secure the certification needed for admission to Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an entire academic year.
NECO stated that this initiative is designed to help students meet the academic requirements necessary for progression to the next level of their education.
