Amnesty International has called for a comprehensive investigation into the killing of an Islamic school teacher in Kaduna State.
The organization issued the statement after the incident, which took place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Mararaba Jos—a community along the Kaduna‑Zaria highway.
Amnesty International alleges that police officers handed the teacher over to an angry mob, which then killed her and set her body on fire.
The rights group urged the police authorities to examine the circumstances of the event and determine whether any officers were involved in the alleged actions.
“Authorities must ensure that all those responsible for this unlawful killing are identified and brought to justice,” the organization said.
Amnesty International expressed concern about the rising number of mob violence incidents fueled by suspicion and unverified claims, warning that such acts erode the rule of law and endanger innocent lives.
The organization noted that the lack of investigation and prosecution of mob‑killing perpetrators contributes to a culture of impunity, encouraging further vigilante violence.
It stressed that a transparent investigation and prosecution of those found culpable would help restore public confidence in the justice system and deter similar incidents in the future.
