Before the 2027 general elections, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ekiti Central.
Bamidele secured the nomination without opposition.
The APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Arugungu, confirmed his emergence in a list of senatorial aspirants who successfully passed the party’s screening process in Ekiti State.
The list also names other aspirants cleared by the party for the senatorial race: Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs; Senator Biodun Olujimi, former Senate Minority Leader; and Bamidele Faparusi for the Ekiti South Senatorial District.
For Ekiti North Senatorial District, the party cleared Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, along with Senator Ayo Arise, Mr Oladipupo Bamisaye, and Chief Oluwadare Owolabi.
With this latest development, Bamidele is poised to represent the APC in Ekiti Central for a third consecutive term, a move that party supporters say reflects strong backing from constituents.
Bamidele first won the APC senatorial ticket for the district in 2019 after a closely contested primary against the then‑incumbent senator, Mrs Fatimat Raji‑Rasaki.
He also ran unopposed in 2023, a result attributed to his performance in legislative duties, constituency representation, and oversight responsibilities in the National Assembly.
