Belusochukwu Michael Enwere has announced that he will withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial race for Imo East ahead of the party primaries.
Enwere made the announcement in a statement dated May 17, 2026.
He said he stepped down after consulting with his family, supporters, political associates and party leaders in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
“After wide consultations with my family, supporters, political associates, and leaders of our great party, I have decided to step down from the contest for the Imo East Senatorial seat,” he said.
The APC aspirant explained that the decision was taken “in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our people.”
“This decision was not easy, but it was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our people,” he added.
Enwere expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, and the APC for the support he received during the contest.
“I sincerely appreciate Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; my governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma; and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the opportunity and support given to me throughout this process,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that Enwere’s withdrawal comes ahead of the primaries scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
