The Zamfara State branch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now embroiled in a leadership dispute after two rival groups claimed authority over the party’s state structure.
The competing factions are headed by Kabiru Garba Gusau and Shehu Muhammad Maisshanu Guluba, each asserting that they are the rightful state chairmen.
Despite the conflict, both sides agree that Barrister Mahadi Aliyu Gusau remains the party’s gubernatorial candidate, having won the ADC primary election.
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, Guluba denied reports that the party had replaced its governorship candidate. He called the claims “false and misleading” and urged members to ignore any contrary information.
Guluba also accused unnamed individuals of spreading misinformation to sow confusion within the party.
In contrast, Kabiru Garba Gusau maintains that he is the duly recognised state chairman. He argues that any attempt to appoint another chairman violates the party’s constitution and affirms that his election was valid.
Gusau added that the national secretariat acknowledges his leadership, noting that the congress which elected him was overseen by officials from the national headquarters.
The clash underscores rising tensions within the Zamfara ADC as the two factions vie for control ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the leadership dispute continues, both groups continue to endorse Mahadi Aliyu Gusau as the party’s candidate for governor.
