World Cup: Mbappé says “I play to make history” after France beat Senegal.

France captain Kylian Mbappé reminded his teammates to stay composed after the national side’s 3‑1 victory over Senegal in the World Cup group stage.

Speaking to the press following the win, the Real Madrid striker said he plays “to make history for my country,” but added that the primary aim is to lift the World Cup trophy.

Mbappé scored twice, while Bradley Barcola added a third goal, giving the 2018 champions a comfortable win. Senegal’s only goal, from Ibrahim Mbaye, proved insufficient.

“You can never be comfortable in the World Cup,” Mbappé said. “As we have seen in other matches, winning the first game is very difficult.”

“I play to make history for my country, but the most important goal is to help France win the World Cup,” he added.

“This is just the first match of the group stage. We must always maintain composure regarding what we need to do,” the forward continued.

France will face Iraq next Monday, and Mbappé hopes to carry on his strong performances for Les Bleus.
