Senegal’s head coach, Pape Thiaw, said his side earned the decisive victory over Iraq, according to Completesports.com.

The Teranga Lions secured a chance to remain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a commanding 5‑0 win against Iraq at Toronto Stadium on Friday evening.

With the win, Senegal could qualify for the last 32 if they rank among the top eight third‑place teams, but they must wait for other results to determine their fate.

The opening goal came in the fourth minute when Habib Diarra headed the ball into the net after Abdoulaye Seck delivered a corner.

Iraq were reduced to ten players soon after the first goal, as Rebin Sulaka was judged to have denied Sadio Mane a clear scoring chance.

In the second half, Senegal added four additional goals from Pape Gueye, who netted a brace, as well as Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye.

Thiaw commended his players for their effective management of the match.
