The National Deputy Chairperson of the Inter‑Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim, urged women nationwide to take a more active role in the administration and decision‑making of political parties, arguing that such participation would strengthen democratic governance and promote inclusive representation.
She delivered the message on Monday in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state, shortly after the IPAC election was held at the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election produced Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Taraba, as the new state chairman of IPAC.
After the proceedings, Hajiya Ibrahim highlighted the significance of women’s involvement in political leadership, stating that a greater presence of women in party administration would foster democratic development and lead to more balanced governance.
She added that democracy flourishes when all segments of society are adequately represented, and that women possess the capacity and leadership qualities necessary for meaningful political decision‑making.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Bawa was unanimously elected by delegates from 17 registered political parties to serve a two‑year term as the state chairman of IPAC.
The election was conducted peacefully, with delegates from the parties endorsing his candidacy.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected IPAC chairman thanked council members and delegates for their confidence. He pledged to work hard to promote unity, mutual understanding, and cooperation among the state’s political parties.
Alhaji Bawa assured stakeholders that the council, under his leadership, would remain impartial and dedicated to its mandate of advancing democratic values, political tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among political actors.
He further stated that his administration would prioritize dialogue and collaboration among parties, especially as Taraba prepares for upcoming electoral activities.
