Wike Voices Strong Disapproval Over Super Eagles Missing World Cup

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike expressed disappointment that Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He also voiced his outrage on the day President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 7‑kilometre Kuje‑Gwagwalada dual carriageway.

Wike’s comments came after former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo, who was part of the delegation, received a warm welcome.

Speaking to Vice President Shettima Kashim, who was representing the President, Wike said the Nigerian public felt disgusted by the national team’s absence from the expanded 48‑team World Cup final, which was highlighted by the strong performances of African sides such as Morocco, Ghana, Cape Verde, DR Congo and Ivory Coast.

Nigeria’s failure to secure its seventh appearance in the global football tournament came after the Super Eagles were edged out in the African playoffs final by DR Congo.
