Wike Urges Yobo to Inform the Super Eagles That Nigerians Are Unhappy About Their World Cup Absence

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed disappointment that Nigeria did not qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He asked former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo to communicate the sentiments of Nigerians to the national team.

The minister said football continues to unite the country and that many Nigerians were dissatisfied with the Super Eagles’ absence from the global tournament.

Speaking in Abuja, he noted that Nigerians expected more from the national team and hoped the experience would teach lessons that help secure qualification for future international competitions.

Addressing Yobo, Wike urged him to relay the concerns of football‑loving Nigerians to the players and technical staff, emphasizing that the country’s absence from the World Cup disappointed millions of supporters.

Nevertheless, the minister expressed confidence that the Super Eagles could rebound stronger and regain their position among the world’s football elite.

Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup extended the country’s absence from football’s biggest stage, following its miss of the 2022 edition in Qatar.
