Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has acknowledged that cattle continue to roam major roads and streets in Abuja. He said the problem persists despite ongoing efforts to improve the capital.

Speaking at his monthly media briefing on Monday in Abuja, Wike expressed regret over the situation and assured residents that the administration is working to address it.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” the minister said.

Wike explained that the FCT administration is intensifying infrastructure development across the territory, emphasizing that its focus extends beyond the city centre to satellite towns and area councils.

He noted that current projects cover key sectors such as road construction, water supply, and housing.

“Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he added.

The minister also announced that project inaugurations would be carried out in partnership with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of the administration’s third‑year celebrations.

“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he said.

He maintained that completed and ongoing road projects have improved connectivity and enhanced security in several FCT communities.

The presence of roaming cattle on Abuja roads has long been a concern for residents, who cite safety risks and traffic obstructions.

Wike added that residents are beginning to feel the impact of reforms and infrastructure development under the Tinubu administration.
