Why there’s so much hatred, divisions among Nigerians – Baba-Ahmed

National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba‑Ahmed, said on Sunday that Nigeria is experiencing increasing hatred and division.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, the former aide to President Bola Tinubu blamed the problem on weak leadership and the deliberate exploitation of ethnic and religious differences by politicians.

He contended that many political actors deepen divisions among citizens to secure political advantage and maintain power.

Baba‑Ahmed added that the resulting atmosphere of distrust has weakened national unity and diverted attention from the real challenges facing the country.

He cited insecurity, poverty, unemployment and deteriorating public services as pressing issues that affect Nigerians across all ethnicities, religions and regions.

“Bandits, kidnappers and criminals do not ask victims about their tribes, language or religion before attacking them,” he said.

According to Baba‑Ahmed, the country’s problems stem mainly from failures in leadership and institutions rather than differences among its people.

While insisting that Nigerians share more common interests than divisions, he called for a renewed commitment to national unity.

The PRP chairman urged leaders to abandon identity politics and focus on policies that improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

“Rebuilding trust in government and strengthening institutions will go a long way in reducing tensions and fostering national cohesion,” he said. “We need leadership that unites Nigerians and addresses the issues that affect everyone, irrespective of where they come from.”
