Why I Can't Date Nigerian Celebrities – Tems

Grammy‑winning singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, explained why she does not pursue romantic relationships with Nigerian male celebrities.

During the BET Awards ceremony over the weekend, an interviewer asked if she would approach the attractive Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye if given the opportunity. Tems replied that because they are both Nigerians, she would not view him that way.

The “Love Me Jeje” singer clarified that she is not interested in romantic relationships with fellow Nigerian celebrities, stating that she regards them as “brothers.”

She said, “I know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here.”

She added, “We [Nigerian celebrities] friend each other and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers.”
