The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has pledged that the killers of slain Abia nursing student Miss Wendy Achumba will face justice.

Miss Achumba, a 21‑year‑old student at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School in Unuologho Obowo, Imo State, was raped and murdered at her off‑campus home.

The Speaker made this statement on Monday during a visit to the family’s residence in Aba.

Emeruwa, who noted that the matter had recently been raised in a plenary session of the Assembly, informed the bereaved that a motion has been tabled to accelerate the Abia government’s response to the murder case.

He emphasized his personal concern for the issue and reiterated that both the State House of Assembly and the state government are committed to securing justice for the suspected perpetrators.

Speaking for the family, Rev. T. O. Ikpemmadu of the United Evangelical Church described the loss of their daughter as a profound pain but expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the state government for their efforts to pursue justice.
