Former England striker Wayne Rooney has pointed out two players he believes are missing from the England squad for the World Cup.

He said the team felt incomplete without them during the 0‑0 draw with Ghana on Tuesday night.

After a convincing 4‑2 victory over Croatia in their opening match, the situation changed in Boston, where the Three Lions’ momentum stalled.

Thomas Tuchel’s side controlled the match, holding nearly 79 percent of possession and creating 19 shots, while Ghana managed only two, yet the game finished in a stalemate.

England struggled to break through until the final minutes, when Bukayo Saka, Nico O’Reilly, and Harry Kane all had chances to score.

Ghana’s disciplined defense excelled, blocking many attempts before they could threaten the goal.

Rooney believes the match required players such as Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, who were omitted from the England squad, and could have helped unlock Ghana’s defense in Boston.

Rooney said, “These games are more difficult than games against better teams that are better going forward. There’s more space,” as quoted by Metro.

“I don’t want to go back to it, but these games are when you need a Phil Foden or a Cole Palmer. Clever players in tight areas.”
