Our position, going forward —Ijaw, Urhobo leaders

The Ijaw and Urhobo communities within Warri’s federal constituency in Delta State have outlined their stance on the Supreme Court‑mandated delineation of the area, as carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The leaders urged INEC to refrain from making any changes to the May 20, 2026 report that details the registration areas and electoral wards of Warri South West Local Government Area. They also requested that the report be uploaded to INEC’s portal without further delay.

In a joint statement, Godspower Gbenekama, Olorogun Victor Okumagba, and six other Ijaw and Urhobo leaders said:

“We have reluctantly accepted the intervention of the President and Commander‑in‑Chief regarding the alteration to the registration areas/electoral wards in Warri South West Local Government Area as a mark of respect for the President and in the interest of peace.”

“We will not accept any further alteration to INEC’s delineation report presented to stakeholders on May 20, 2026. This includes changes to the composition of registration areas/electoral wards among ethnic groups, the names of registration areas, the composition of polling units, or any other modification to the report.”

“INEC must not alter the May 20, 2026 report in any form or under any circumstances.”

“We note that the Itsekiri community remains dissatisfied despite political interventions that have adjusted the INEC delineation report in their favor.”

“We call on INEC to upload the registration areas/polling units report to its portal immediately and to begin a special registration and voter transfer process for the newly created registration areas and polling units in Warri’s federal constituency.”

“Any further delay in implementing the delineation report or attempts to alter it would betray the trust of the Federal Government and INEC. We should not be held responsible for the likely consequences that may follow.”
