War: JD Vance Says the US‑Iran Deal Is Not Yet Finalized

Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the United States is not yet ready to finalize a deal with Iran.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Vance said that the parties were “close” and that the U.S. was in a position to “substantially set back Tehran’s nuclear programme.”

Earlier in the week, U.S. media reported that American and Iranian negotiators had reached an agreement on Tuesday, but that the deal still required President Donald Trump’s approval.

Vance’s remarks represent the first senior U.S. response to those reports.

During a White House press briefing earlier on Thursday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen (note: the article incorrectly names Scott Bessent) said that negotiators had been “going back and forth.”

Yellen added that President Trump has made it clear he has several red lines, including that Iran must hand over its highly enriched uranium and must not acquire a nuclear weapon.

“The Strait of Hormuz must remain free and open as it has been before. Everything depends on what the president decides to do,” Yellen said.
