The re‑election campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has gained momentum after the Ife‑based Village People Movement announced its endorsement of the governor for a second term.
More than 1,000 members of the movement, led by former Labour Party House of Representatives candidate Olamide Awosunle, assembled at Enuwa Square in Ile‑Ife to declare their support for Adeleke publicly.
In a statement released by Awosunle to journalists on Friday, the group said the endorsement attracted youths, women, students, civil servants, artisans, retirees and other stakeholders from across the Ife Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Awosunle explained that the movement includes members from Ife East, Ife Central, Ife North and Ife South local government areas, all of whom had reached a unanimous decision to back Adeleke’s re‑election.
He said the decision was based on the governor’s performance, noting his prompt payment of salaries and pensions and the implementation of developmental projects throughout the state.
“We have carefully assessed the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke and concluded that he deserves another term to consolidate on his achievements,” he said.
Awosunle added that the group would intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter education to secure overwhelming support for the governor in the upcoming governorship election.
Obisakin Busayo, a member of the group, praised Adeleke for what she described as people‑oriented leadership and inclusive governance.
She said the governor had shown commitment through various development projects across the state and urged residents to maintain their support.
Modupeola Adeleke, the governor’s elder sister, who attended the event as a special guest, thanked the group for their support and confidence in the administration.
She assured them that the governor remained committed to delivering further dividends of democracy, including improved infrastructure, youth empowerment and expanded opportunities for residents of the state.
