US Embassy urges Nigerians to honor visa terms and avoid overstaying

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has called on Nigerian travelers to strictly observe U.S. immigration rules concerning their stay in the country.

The embassy made the statement on Tuesday in a post on its official X account.

It urged visa holders to remain only for the period authorized, to keep their documents current, and to avoid any conduct that could jeopardize their eligibility for future entry into the United States.

The statement noted that complying with visa terms is essential for safeguarding future travel and study opportunities.

It stressed that following the rules is not only the right thing to do but also a safeguard for individual travel prospects.

“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do; it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travelers,” the post read.

The reminder comes amid ongoing efforts by the U.S. to curb visa overstays and preserve the integrity of its immigration system.

The embassy advised Nigerians traveling for study, work, or visits to always honor the conditions attached to their visas.
