Tunisia Must Stay Focused to Compete in the 2026 World Cup, Says Renard

New Tunisia head coach Hervé Renard has urged his players to stay highly focused ahead of their second match against Japan in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Recall that Tunisia replaced former head coach Sabri Lamouchi immediately after an embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Sweden.

It is not the first time Renard has taken over from Lamouchi. The two‑time Africa Cup of Nations champion succeeded his French counterpart in 2014 as Ivory Coast’s head coach following the team’s group‑stage exit at the World Cup.

Renard, known for orchestrating Saudi Arabia’s shock victory over Argentina in the 2022 World Cup, was appointed on a rapid turnaround.

He faces a significant challenge in revitalising the squad before their upcoming match in Monterrey, Mexico.

He told reporters that although they have limited time to prepare, the main goal is to keep the players’ morale and concentration high.

“At the moment we need to be focused on ourselves,” Renard said to reporters at the team’s training ground just hours after arriving in Monterrey.

“We still have a few days to be ready,” he added. “It’s a World Cup,” he said. “I know the passion around this event. That’s what motivated me to come, and it’s a challenge, which isn’t easy.”

“I’ve told them they have to keep their heads up; you’re here to represent your country,” Renard said.
