Tunisia has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi after the Carthage Eagles suffered a heavy 5‑1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The North African side was overwhelmed by Sweden on Sunday night.
Former international Wahbi Kazri, who is already part of the technical staff, is expected to assume the role of interim coach for the remainder of the tournament.
Tunisia will meet Japan in their next game on Sunday, 21 June.
Lamouchi was appointed as Tunisia’s head coach in January 2026.
In his first game in charge, the Carthage Eagles drew 0‑0 with Canada.
They then lost 1‑0 to Austria and 5‑0 to Belgium before the humiliating defeat to Sweden.
