Tuchel: England Unlucky Not to Score Against Ghana in World Cup 2026

England manager Thomas Tuchel said that the Three Lions were unlucky to miss a goal against Ghana in Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 match.

England and Ghana ended their Group L encounter at Gillette Stadium in Boston with a 0‑0 draw.

Late in the match, substitute Nico O’Reilly nearly secured a win by heading the ball onto the crossbar. The rebound went to captain Harry Kane, who, unusually, sent his shot over the bar.

After the stalemate, Tuchel told Sporty TV that England controlled possession but were unlucky to fail to score, citing the crossbar hit and missed late opportunities.

He also said his side lacked the precise fluidity displayed in their opening match against Croatia. Despite the frustration, Tuchel praised Ghana’s resilience, noting that England were only a stroke of luck away from a breakthrough.

He added, “I think the Ghanaians were very good in defending and in counter‑attacks for most of the match. But we were unlucky not to score; we must pay more attention to that in subsequent games.”

He said, “I don’t know whether this will change my plan against Panama in our final group game, as it is in four days.”

The draw means both teams are well positioned to progress from the group stage into the final round of fixtures.
